For only the second time in history, a whopping five named were active in the Atlantic Ocean. One of them, Hurricane Sally, is currently on its way to the Gulf Coast of Florida while Tropical Storm Teddy is also predicted to become a hurricane. With the amount of potentially dangerous storms looming, homeowners should be aware of what their insurance covers, yet a recent poll seems to suggest otherwise.
A hurricane preparedness and education group called Get Ready Florida recently surveyed more than 1,500 voters in Florid and found that nearly seventy percent of them did not have the monetary resources to pay for a $5,000 deductible. Furthermore, over fifteen percent were under the impression that their homeowners insurance policy provided coverage for removal off debris.
While South Florida has so far managed to avoid any major storms, homeowners may wish to use this time to carefully examine their policy and make sure they understand what is and isn’t covered before it’s too late.
