With Florida’s subtropical climate, it is always susceptible to the possibility of tropical cyclones. With hurricane season in full swing, homeowners should be extra careful about making sure their roofs are being properly maintained.
No matter if your roof is brand new or if it’s older, there are steps you can take to keep it in good shape which doesn’t necessarily require a pricey roof replacement. For one, make sure that your gutters are cleaned at least twice a year, preferably more. Remove leaves from gutters as they will cause clogging. Failure to regularly clean these may cause damage to sidings and walls.
Speaking of leaves, a little bit of tree trimming can go a long way. Besides preventing branches from damaging a roof and reducing the number of leaves, removal of overhanging branches will also prevent animals like possums from sneaking into your roof. These animals may gnaw on the roof, resulting in damage.
Keep an eye out for loose or missing shingles. Instead of climbing on the roof and creating a safety risk, use binoculars to stop for potential damage.
