Over 15,000 flood insurance claims related to Hurricane Irma have been filed, and there are more on the way, according to a recent Sun Sentinel report and data provided by FEMA. In fact, over 1,800 claims have been filed in Miami-Dade County alone.
Speaking of insurance claims, recent news reports suggest insurance companies are allegedly misleading policyholders by advising them not to consult an attorney or public adjuster. The companies may be telling policyholders that by hiring an attorney, their claim may face delays. Legally, an insurance company is not allowed to do this under Florida state law.
If your home suffered damage due to Hurricane Irma, make sure you are aware of your rights prior to getting in touch with your insurance company. Should you have questions or if you are one of the homeowners that may have been misled by your insurance company, please contact our law firm.
Lastly, homeowners should not forget they have until November 10 to apply for FEMA assistance.
