Hopefully, there will never come a time when a major disaster strikes your home. Yet as we all know, life and Mother Nature are unpredictable and disaster can strike at any moment. Besides having enough homeowners insurance coverage for your home, it’s also important to have a home inventory. If you haven’t done this yet, you may wish to set aside some time for several reasons.
Knowing what’s missing. Disasters aside, there is also a chance your home may be broken into. A room that appears complete may be missing a few items you completely forgot about. With a home inventory, you’ll know exactly what’s supposed to be where so you can carefully examine each room with some peace of mind that you didn’t forget anything.
Knowing the value. When you’re dealing with an insurance claim, it is vital to know the monetary value of your belongings. Electronics, pricey furniture, any art you may have, all of these carry a value. With a home inventory, you can know the value and figure out whether your policy provides sufficient coverage.
Simplification. Speaking of claims, it’s a laborious process where you’ll also need to provide proof that the items you’re claiming were lost or damaged were in the home and what their value is. Having the inventory plus photos can dramatically make the process much easier.
