A New Year brings plenty of opportunities to start fresh or make some changes in regards to the finances. With the arrival of 2020, consider a few tips to better control your finances and potentially have some money available in case of a rainy day.
Make a fund for repairs. A homeowner can spend about $2,000 a year or so to perform maintenance on the home, including performing common tasks like mowing and maintaining the lawn or fixing small things here and there. This doesn’t take into account major issues such as having to replace a water heater or an entire roof replacement. Consider making a fund that you can contribute to regularly so you don’t find yourself scrambling in the event of a major issue.
Evaluate your insurance. Do you know how much you’re spending on insurance? If it’s been a while since you’ve updated your policy, you may be missing out on opportunities to save some money. Before renewing, evaluate your options and see if any insurers are offering discounts. You may even wish to entertain the possibility of a higher deductible to bring down your premium.
