In another example of assignment of benefits (AOB) abuse, the owner of a Florida restoration contracting company was placed under arrest after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from consumers that had signed over their AOB benefits to him.
The owner and his staff are being accused of allegedly forging customer signatures on construction documents and insurance claim payment checks in which the homeowner and mortgage lender were both required to sign. With AOB, a third party authority is able to file a claim and can also make repair decisions plus collect insurance-related payments without having to involve the consumer and/or homeowner.
Assignment of benefits abuse is among the several issues that have caused insurance premiums to skyrocket for many Florida homeowners. While state officials work on coming up with a reform plan, we are here to help. If you’re dealing with an insurance company regarding your own unresolved claim, please contact us as we may be able to help you get the money you need for repairs.
