On Friday, there will be exactly one month before the start of the 2020 hurricane season. This means a greater chance of storms that can wreak major havoc and cause damage such as flooding. With that in mind, it’s imperative that you implement a flood preparedness plan if you haven’t already done so.
Remember that floods can happen at any time, regardless of whether or not it is hurricane season. Even heavy rain can cause floods and as little as an inch of floodwater is capable of causing significant damage to a home, well into the thousands of dollars.
Some homes are located in areas that have been officially designated as being at a higher risk of flooding. Your home may not be. However, even zones that are not flood risks are still susceptible to the effects of Mother Nature. If a major storm does pass through your home, there is still a chance your home may experience flooding.
Lastly, as we’ve reiterated numerous times in the past, keep in mind that a standard homeowners insurance policy will not cover your home should it sustain damage as a result of flooding.
