After Hurricane Irma slammed Southwest Florida last fall, numerous residents and businesses were affected. As was common in the aftermath of a storm, damages needed to be assessed but it is very difficult to do so with all sorts of debris everywhere, as well as the factors of time and safety. Enter the use of drones, from a startup called Soaring Sky, which is based in Fort Myers. Drones have played a key role in recent years in enhancing and helping businesses from agriculture to real estate. These drones use an aerial view to ascertain and analyze what needs to be seen.
The firm inked a contract with an insurance company and proceeded to fly hundreds of drones in the Keys. In areas with high concentration of damages, a single flight can create multiple claims much faster and with more accuracy than human ability. They aren’t the only business doing so; a drone company based in Naples also works with insurance adjusters. This trend is becoming increasingly productive and useful and certainly has a bright future ahead of it.
