Florida Homeowners Have Some More Room to Breathe

dañoIf you’re among the Florida homeowners who have suffered damage because of the effects of Hurricane Irma, there is some good news to report. The Florida Insurance Commissioner recently issued an emergency order allowing homeowners a greater amount of time to file their insurance claims.

While this news may come as a relief to those scrambling to assess damage and move forward, homeowners should not wait to take care of temporary repairs. Due to the amount of widespread damage, chances are it will take adjusters and contractors more time to get around to all of the properties that may have sustained damage. Homeowners should expect to wait up to four days in some cases.

With the new order by the Florida Insurance Commissioner, homeowners will have a maximum of 180 days to file their claim, a significantly longer amount of time than the standard ninety days. The majority of insurance policies should have coverage for getting a professional tarp installed to prevent rain damage.
