With less than a month left until we say goodbye to 2017, you may soon be up for renewing your homeowner’s insurance. While most homeowners concentrate on how much their premium may have changed, it’s also important to take into account a few other factors.
Before renewing, take a close look at your insurance provider. A lot can change in your life in a year and an insurer is no different. Are they able to pay you the money you need to take care of damages in the event of a major storm? Hurricane Irma has caused billions of dollars worth of damage, it’s something to keep in mind. If you did suffer damage, how was the customer service? Did they do the best they could to take care of your claim?
If your situation allows, refrain from lowering your homeowner’s insurance. Remember that this insurance is typically meant for catastrophes, therefore your home needs to be insured for the value of the replacement versus its market value. If you become a victim of a catastrophic loss, its rebuilding cost will likely cost you more than its asking price when it comes time to sell.
