Our very own Dalyla Santos and her husband recently spent their weekend participating in a 5K. Unlike other 5K events, this one was in support of a great cause: the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network was founded in 1999 and remains a global leader in the ongoing fight against pancreatic cancer, utilizing extensive community action, research, patient research, and advocacy. The organization continues its efforts to fight the disease and work towards its goal of doubling patient survival by 2020.
The mortality rate of pancreatic cancer patients is greater than patients suffering from breast cancer. Statistically, patients have a five year survival of just nine percent. The disease remains the third leading cause of deaths involving cancer, and it’s projected that it will move into second place by 2020.
This is the second year in a row Dalyla and her husband have participated in the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network 5K event. Last year the couple raised $500 and this year they increased the amount raised to $1,200.
