What to Know Before Applying for an Investor Visa
Are you considering an investor visa? You may want to hurry. Congress is currently evaluating the possibility of raising the minimum required to obtain a U.S. immigrant investor visa (EB-5) from its current price of $500,000 to $1.35 million.
If you’re interested in such a visa, there are important things to know. For starters, there is a limit on the number of investor visas the U.S. gives out each year, which currently stands at 10,000. There are also limits on how many visas will be given out to investors per country. For example, Chinese investors are currently scrambling to obtain visas before the changes proposed by Congress possibly go into effect. If more than 10,000 Chinese citizens have applied, they will be placed on a waiting list based on the date their application was filed.
Having an immigration lawyer is absolutely essential with investor visas as the application process is complicated and expensive. If you are turned down or apply improperly, you risk damaging your chances of successfully applying in the future. Since investments need to be made prior to applying, it also means you’ll waste a tremendous amount of money.
