Our Attorneys

Rafael Alonso was born and raised in Miami-Dade County. After graduating high school and returning from the military, he worked for Miami-Dade County as a Code Enforcement Officer dealing in both the zoning and building code for seven years.  He then earned his Bachelor’s degree from Barry University while working full time.

He earned his Juris Doctorate from Florida International University. While in law school he was a member of the Cuban-American Law Society where he served as President of that organization, a member of the FIU Trail Advocacy Team where he competed against other Florida schools and served on the student board each year as a class representative and as President his final year. Rafael also interned with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.

After completing law school, he had the privilege of serving the community as a Miami-Dade Assistant State Attorney, where he practiced criminal law. Through his years at the State Attorney’s Office Rafael has become an experienced trial attorney.  He continues to serve the community through his practice in the area of residential and commercial insurance claims. Rafael has focused his practice on first party residential and commercial insurance claims.

Rafael is a member of the Florida Bar and eligible to practice law in the State of Florida, as well as a member of the Federal Bar eligible to practice in the Southern District of Florida. Rafael has also been before of the 3rd District Court of Appeal.

Anthony David Perez was born in New York and raised in Miami. After graduating Coral Gables Sr. High School, he attended Florida State University and the University of Florida, where he earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees.

He received his Juris Doctorate degree from Florida International University College of Law.  During law school, he served as a legal intern to the Honorable Judge Cecilia Altonaga in the Federal Court for the Southern District of Florida.  He also served as a legal intern to the Honorable Judge Barbara Lagoa for the Third District Court of Appeals for the State of Florida.  Mr. Perez also served as a certified legal intern for the Miami-Dade County Public Defender’s Office in both the felony and misdemeanor divisions.  As one of only a few fully bilingual interns, he counseled numerous Spanish-only clients.

After law school, Mr. Perez worked as a consumer law attorney, defending clients from credit card companies and debt collectors.  He also worked for one of the nation’s largest personal bankruptcy law firms, representing clients in Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

He is a member of the Florida Bar and the American Bar Association.  He is admitted to practice in all State of Florida courts and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

His areas of practice include bankruptcy, consumer defense in creditor collections actions, foreclosure defense, and debt relief.

William C. Brown is a Partner of the firm and practices civil litigation at the trial and appellate levels.  Mr. Brown heads the Personal Injury Protection division of the firm and also specializes in first party homeowner and commercial insurance disputes and consumer protection law.

Mr. Brown attended Florida Atlantic University where he received the Tribune Sun-Sentinel Liberal Arts scholarship and graduated cum laude in 2003. While attending the Florida International University College of Law, he was a member of the FIU Trial Team and participated in the Florida Bar Chester Bedell Memorial Mock Trial Competition and the  Honorable Earle E. Zehmer Memorial Mock Trial Competition. Mr. Brown is admitted to practice in Florida as well as the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

M. Katherine Heiserman practices in the area of insurance litigation representing clients at both the trial and appellate levels. Graduating within the top 10 of her class, Ms. Heiserman received her Juris Doctorate from Florida International University. She belongs to several associations including the Broward County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Florida Association for Women Lawyers.

While attending law school, Ms. Heiserman was selected to fill one of the twenty-five nation-wide slots to work for the United States Army Judge Advocate General Corps. After completing her assignment with the Army, she worked as a law clerk for Alonso & Perez, LLP. During her time at FIU Law, Ms. Heiserman earned 4 CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in Torts, Contracts, Use of Force Seminar, and Labor Law. Ms. Heiserman also served as Governor of the Law Student Division of The Florida Bar.
